I’m a fledgling ceramics artist in Seattle, and definitely have the starving artist part down pat. I really admire your work, and if it weren’t for the starving artist bit, I’d have several pieces in my collection. After hearing how much I wanted to become a ceramics artist, a friend gave me a small, vintage finishing kiln, which will be great for small items like mugs and soup bowls, but if I am to throw anything larger than a salad plate, I’ll need a larger kiln.
So I guess my question is this: Should I just trade labor (as you did) for kiln time in a local ceramics studio, or should I get my own kiln, and if so, which one? I’m hoping to work with porcelain as well as a few other clays of similar firing cones.
Your work is so beautiful! I’m just getting into pottery and wondering if you can point me toward alphabet stamps similar to what I see you use on your ornaments? I’ve been looking online, but not sure what / where to purchase. I like the idea of words on art – and thinking I’d like to explore it on some of my pots. Your recommendation would be greatly appreciated!
